DMZ: What it's like to visit the North Korean border

Known colloquially as the “truce village”, it is where the 1953 Korean Armistice Agreement was signed, and is where Kim Jong-un became the first North Korean leader to cross into South Korean territory earlier today, walking over the Military Demarcation Line to meet President Moon Jae-in of South Korea. It is undoubtedly the biggest step forward this conflict has seen in nearly seven decades. Today, the DMZ is under the glare of the world’s attention. But when I was there in 2016, I found it oppressively quiet, with only the chatter from my tour group and the occasional bird cry breaking the silence. Eerily, although it is quiet, there are people everywhere, with troops mere feet away from each other in their dark brown uniforms, clutching guns the size of children and staring stonily ahead of them.  Korea Summit: Kim Jong-un crosses border for historic meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in sign on a joint statement North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in embrace each other after signing on a joint statement North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, left, and South Korean President Moon Jae-in shake hands after their joint announcement On the North Korean side, behind the soldiers is a double line of tall, chainlink fences topped with razor wire. And behind these defences are endless rows of bunkers and strong points guarded by North Korean troops in mirrored sunglasses – who we were not to engage with or provoke under any circumstances, we were told. No laughing, joking or gesturing – we must be silent too. Our tour moved onto Unification Hill, which gives visitors a 360-degree view of the Korean peninsula. The weak spring sunlight bounced off the mirrored skyscrapers of Seoul to the south, but turning north, the Songaksan Mountain across the border looked bleak and empty bar a few old fashioned-looking villages.

It's A Great Day To Learn About Travel

Vacations enjoyable, relaxing and something everyone anticipates. But, you may get stressed when traveling. From booking rooms and flights to packing before boarding the train or plane, there are many things that go awry. Here are some tips that will remove the stress from the planning stages and help you enjoy your trip.

As you travel abroad, be conscious of the taxi services you use. You should ensure that you are using a legitimate taxi service. Anyone can pose as a taxi service, and you don't know what someone might do or where you might be taken.

Make sure to get to the port city the night before your cruise to avoid the chance of missing it. Always ask the hotel staff for the policies and pricing on parking at the hotel and whether deals are available.

Whenever you can, print online tickets in advance of your visit to a special event or attraction. The small fee per ticket for this service is well worth it when you consider the lines that you can avoid. Some places have time blocks that you can enter. This is another good way to avoid lines.

If it's too hard to leave your furry friend at home, bring her along. Vacations that are pet-friendly are becoming more commonplace, with a lot of hotels offering promotions for travelers with pets. You will find that while many chain hotels allow pets, you can even take them to some Las Vegas casino hotels and on some cruises. Find out where you can take your pets and feel free to do so.

When looking for the best prices for a flight, look at each airline's official website offering flights into your final destination. You could find a very good deal this way, and it may even beat that of sites like Travelocity.

Utilize travel to educate your family. As long as you're safe, going to developing countries can educate your kids on how other nations work. When you spend time abroad, you give yourself and your family a greater understanding of another culture and the world at large.

Make sure that you are not going on vacation during a time of renovation. The worst part about a hotel stay could be when they are doing some kind of construction work when you're trying to relax. Since there's nothing the hotel staff can do about the noise, it's better to just avoid those dates entirely.

When packing for a longer journey, bring a lightly-lined raincoat. Many times it is very difficult to predict how the weather will turn out. A rain coat works as a windbreaker when it's cold, along with the bathrobe in the hotel.

Cash your traveler's checks before going shopping or eating. Traveler's checks may be something that you will want to avoid. You don't want to lose out, so go ahead and get local currency as soon as possible.

If a rental car is part of an upcoming trip, check out the fine print in your current car insurance policy. You don't want to have to pay for items you don't need, such as extra rental insurance, and you might not need this costly add-on. Generally speaking, most car insurance policies include some coverage when it comes to third party liability. Look into your own policy before leaving, as it can be very important later.

So there you have it, the tips and tricks used by experts, to make traveling more enjoyable. When booking a trip in the future, try using these tips to start with. This will allow you to have a great vacation. [ทัวร์เกาหลี]
